NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s Facebook account was restored on Saturday as he questioned the suspension, saying his posts had been wrongly flagged.Yadav said his account was taken down because of posts related to the death of a journalist and another case involving the suspicious death of a woman in Ballia. “I was told the objection was ‘Adult sexual exploitation and violence’. When I got the report, I saw that the flagged posts were about the murder of a journalist and a woman from Ballia,” he said.

The SP chief added that his posts only raised questions about the pressure faced by journalists under the BJP government. “In the post I had written that the death of a journalist, putting pressure on them, doing FIRs on them, all of the BJP’s tricks are being used here. What was wrong in that?” he asked, adding that the suspension would not deter him. “We will continue our work on the ground and enlighten people. That’s where the real fight is,” he said. After his account was restored, Yadav shared a post paying tribute to Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary. “By total revolution, I mean seeing the most oppressed person in society at the pinnacle of power,” Yadav quoted him.

The Facebook account, which has more than 8.5 million followers, was suspended around 6 pm on Friday. The reason for the action was not immediately clear.Following the suspension, Samajwadi Party leaders accused the BJP of trying to silence opposition voices. SP leader Fakhrul Hasan Chaand wrote on X that the move was “an attack on democracy” and said the BJP government had imposed “an undeclared emergency” to suppress dissent.Union minister for information and broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said the government had no role in the suspension. “Facebook has taken action according to its policy. There was a very abusive post on their account. The government has no role in this,” he said.
