Haryana IPS 'suicide': 'No matter how influential culprit may be, will not be spared,' says CM Saini; assures thorough investigation

NEW DELHI: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini assures action on anyone found guilty in the investigation around IPs officer Y Puran Kumar’s suicide.‘No matter how influential the culprit may be, they will not be spared,” said Saini at the BJP state executive meeting.

IPS Officer ‘Suicide’: Wife Seeks FIR Against Haryana DGP, Rohtak SP Over ‘Harassment And Abetment’

Further assuring thorough investigation he added, “This is an unfortunate incident. The family has demanded justice. We have assured them that there will be a thorough inquiry. Action will be taken against the accused… There should not be politics on such issues.”This statement comes a day after the Saini visited the residence of the deceased IPS officer and met his wife, IAS Amneet Kumar. The wife, in her capacity, has expressed dissatisfaction with the FIR registered on Thursday and has wrote to the Chandigarh senior SP requesting immediate corrections. She said the copy of FIR number 156, handed to her at 10:22 pm on Thursday, was unsigned and contained “incomplete information.“ “The names of the accused persons have not been mentioned clearly and the document lacks the necessary details required for a fair and transparent investigation,” she wrote to the SSP. She added that her complaint named Shatrujeet Kapur and Narendra Bijarniya, but their names were missing in the FIR. “As per the prescribed FIR document format, all accused should be clearly listed under column 7,” she noted, requesting that the FIR be amended to “accurately reflect the names of all accused individuals in the proper section.“ On Thursday, police had said the FIR included “everyone named in the suicide note,” but did not clarify whether Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya were listed. However, Haryana government replaced Bijraniya with Surinder Singh Bhoria, officials said on Saturday. The reshuffle came amid growing pressure following the death by suicide.Read more: State govt removes Narendra Bijraniya from SP post; Surinder Singh Bhoria takes charge Meanwhile, Amneet also accused Chandigarh Police of diluting charges under the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The FIR currently cites Section 3(1)(r), which carries a minimum six-month jail term, extendable to five years, and a fine. She argued that Section 3(2)(v), which provides for life imprisonment if the offence is motivated by caste, should be added. The FIR is also registered under Section 108 of the BNS for abetment to suicide, which allows for a maximum sentence of 10 years. Amneet further stated that the ‘Final Note’ dated October 7, 2025, recovered from her husband’s pocket and laptop bag, has not been provided to her. “I have not received any copy of the said ‘final note’ to compare it with the version referenced in the FIR. I request that certified copies of both ‘final notes’ be supplied to me immediately for record and verifications,” she said.
