CHENNAI: Chennai district collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade declared a holiday for schools on Wednesday due to heavy rain. Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi,Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai district collectors declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Wednesday.Schools and colleges were originally scheduled to reopen on Wednesday after the Diwali holidays.The school education department postponed the state level Republic Day sports meet, scheduled to be held in Thanjavur from Oct 24 to 29, due to heavy rain.
