In a joint operation of Delhi and Bihar Police, four alleged gangsters from Bihar were killed in a shootout in Rohini in the early hours of Thursday.

The four accused have been identified as Ranjan Pathak, 25; Bimlesh Mahto, 25; Manish Pathak, 33; and Aman Thakur, 21.

Police said Ranjan was allegedly running the ‘Sigma Gang’ in Bihar and was among the most-wanted men in the state. He was allegedly involved in a recent high-profile killing in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district and planning a big crime during the Bihar elections, according to police sources. Police had also announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for his arrest.

Ranjan, Bimlesh and Manish were from Sitamarhi while Aman was a resident of Delhi’s Karawal Nagar.

According to police, on a secret tip-off, joint teams of the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Bihar Police laid a trap from Dr Ambedkar Chowk to Pansali Chowk in Rohini at 2.20 am.

On seeing the police teams, the accused, who were travelling in a white colour Baleno car, opened fire at them. In retaliation, the police teams also opened fire in which all four accused received the bullet injuries.

They were taken to the nearby Ambedkar Hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

“All four accused persons were wanted in a number of heinous cases including murder, extortion and robbery in Bihar,” a police officer said.

Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), Bihar Police, Kundan Krishnan told The Indian Express: “They were hardened criminals involved in several cases including murder. They had been active mainly in Parihar and Sursand area of Sitamarhi. Our intelligence unit had been tracking them. We tracked them from Punjab…”

Police said Ranjan had allegedly sent his criminal biodata to a media house after the Sitamarhi killing.

According to the Bihar Police, a purported audio clip of Ranjan, where he was talking about the Bihar elections, recently surfaced.

Bimlesh, according to police, supplied weapons and made extortion calls to businessmen, Manish was allegedly involved in a murder and kidnapping, and Aman provided logistical support to Ranjan’s gang.
