The Ministry of Electronics and Electronics Technology on Monday (October 27, 2025) announced seven projects amounting to ₹5,532 crore, five of which are in Tamil Nadu, and one each in Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).

The investments will be by private players under the ECMS, under which these firms, depending on the category of component and the year of operation, 1-10% of production value in incentives over a six-year period.

Mysore-headquartered Kaynes Circuits India Pvt., Ltd. will set up manufacturing units to make printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera module sub-assemblies, and laminates. The facilities will be based in Chennai and Thoothukudi, Kaynes Vice-Chairman Ramesh Kunhikannan said during the announcement. The lion’s share, nearly 87%, of Kaynes’s ₹3,280 crore investment will go into PCBs and laminates.

“Polypropylene film and copper laminates are imported currently, and 100% of domestic demand will be fulfilled by these units,” IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The government said it expects ₹44,406 crore in production, and 5,195 new jobs created by these projects. The projects in Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh will be executed by Gurugram-headquartered SRF Ltd. and Chennai-based Syrma Strategic Electronics Pvt. Ltd.

Hosur-based Ascent Circuits Pvt. Ltd. will also build a facility in Tamil Nadu for PCBs with a ₹991 crore investment.

The government issued letters to the firms within two weeks of the approval being granted under the scheme, Mr. Vaishnaw pointed out. “It’s very important that most of these units get off the ground very quickly because time is of the essence,” IT Secretary S. Krishnan said.

“We are aiming to improve the overall domestic value added [in India’s electronics manufacturing sector], and for that, all of these units need to come on stream as quickly as possible.” Payouts are approved as and when production starts, incentivising firms to speedily get started with manufacturing.

“In the coming years, the domestic value addition [in the electronics manufacturing sector] will increase with the development of design capabilities,” the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association’s chairperson Pankaj Mohindroo said in a statement.
