Priya Kapur takes over late Sunjay Kapur’s business amid the ongoing legal battle against Karisma Kapoor’s kids: Here’s everything you need to know about the disputed will, petition, and more

Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband and industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s untimely demise in June 2025, at the age of 53, sent shock waves. Sunjay and Karisma have two children, a daughter and a son, who, with their mother, paid their final respects to their late father at his funeral. Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan also came in support of the grieving family during the difficult time. Back then, no one knew that in just a couple of months, a legal battle would begin between the Kapoors and Kapur. This battle was centered around the disputed will dated March 21, 2025, which allegedly left Sunjay Kapur’s entire personal estate to his third wife, Priya Kapur. Karisma’s children challenged the will, claimed it to be forged, and amid the ongoing legal woes, Priya Kapur recently took over Sunjay’s business. In between a lot of drama unfolded; read on to know everything that has happened so far in this legal battle.

Sunjay Kapur’s Sister Claims Priya Sachdev Helped Break His Marriage With Karisma

Karisma Kapoor’s kids contested Sunjay Kapoor’s will

Following Sunjay Kapur’s demise, a feud over his ₹30,000 crore estate was ignited. On September 9, reports came out that late Sanjay Kapur’s two children from his ex-wife and Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor approached the Delhi High Court seeking a share in their father’s assets. According to a report by Bench and Bar, the siblings, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, accused stepmother Priya Kapur (Sanjay Kapur’s third wife) of forging Sunjay Kapur’s will in an attempt to have complete control of the assets.Represented by their mother, they argued that they were wrongfully excluded from Kapur’s estate by Priya Kapur. In addition to Priya Kapur, the suit filed has the names of her minor son and the deceased’s mother, Rani Kapur. The report further stated that the will was forged and fabricated, and for the same, Priya conspired with her two associates, Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma. “The Plaintiffs submit that the purported will allegedly executed by the Plaintiffs’ father is not a legal and valid document, is forged and fabricated, and in any event surrounded by suspicious circumstances. It is for this reason that neither the original of the Alleged Purported Will has been shown to the Plaintiffs nor a copy of the Alleged Purported Will has been provided,” the suit states. The children requested the Court to declare them Class I legal heirs and to grant them a one-fifth share each in their late father’s assets. They sought to freeze Sunjay’s personal assets until the matter is resolved.

Delhi High Court allowed Priya Kapoor to present Sunjay Kapur’s complete list of private assets in a sealed envelope

On September 26, news came that the Delhi High Court allowed Priya Kapoor to share all details related to Sunjay Kapoor’s estate and assets in a sealed envelope. The court instructed all the parties involved to sign an undertaking stating they would not leak any details in the matter to the media.According to IANS, Priya Kapur’s lawyer shared that they want to share the information with the court, and don’t want any public attention on it. However, the lawyer also stated that it was completely the court’s decision to enforce this or not. On the other hand, Mahesh Jethmalani, who was representing actress Karisma Kapoor’s children, didn’t agree with the said proposal and stated that such a ban on the media could not be imposed.“My client has been given six percent shares. Because of this fake will. Confidentiality means nothing to me. I don’t understand what there is to hide in this,” Jethmalani said. Meanwhile, Priya’s lawyer suggested that it would be best to stay away from the media trial. Finally, the court decided that none of the parties would speak about the sealed documents in the media. However, a copy of the documents will be shared between the parties.Further, it had nothing to do with the discussion regarding the stake of Karisma’s children on Priya’s behalf. It was mentioned that the kids received a stake of 19,00 crores in the RK Trust.

Karisma Kapoor’s children claimed their father’s will was forged by the stepmother

Around mid-October, Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, told the Delhi High Court that Priya Kapur forged the will of their late father. According to Lawbite, they described her as “an acute gambler.” “This is the best case for why one should not forge a will. Under this case, she will be booked for forgery. If this forgery is proved, she will lose everything that she is bequeathing to herself under the trust. The lady is a gambler, good luck to her,” the kid’s lawyer Jethmalani submitted.Errors were found in the will, including the misspelling of Kiaan’s name and the incorrect address of Samaira. The lawyer argued that Sunjay, who shared a warm bond with his children, could not have allowed such errors to occur in the first place.

Priya Kapur defended herself, saying errors don’t constitute to bogus will

As the kids challenged the will, calling it fabricated on the grounds of multiple errors, Priya Kapur’s lawyer defended that spelling mistakes cannot prove that the documents have been forged. “I am assuming this to be probate proceedings. After 45 years, I am told there are now four additional grounds to invalidate a will: wrong spelling, wrong address, writing testatrix instead of testator, and closeness of witnesses,” Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar remarked as he submitted to Justice Jyoti Singh. He claimed the will cannot be disputed as there was no direct challenge to the will itself and no dispute about the signature of Sunjay Kapur.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source. The details provided represent allegations made by the parties involved and are not proven facts. The case is ongoing, and a final verdict has not been reached. The publication does not claim that the allegations are true.
