The Tripura Police arrested a man after a factory-made pistol, a magazine, four live ammunition and some contraband items were seized from his home near the Srimantapur border in Sepahijala district on Saturday.

The arrestee has been identified as Babul Miah, 49. The raid at his residence was jointly conducted by personnel from Sonamura police station and Srimantapur border outpost (BOP) of the Border Security Force (BSF).

The police have also detained Khursheda Begum, 27, the wife of Babul Miah, for interrogation in connection with the case.

Releasing a press communique, the Tripura Police stated that the joint team also seized 250 empty bottles of banned cough syrup, one butcher knife, 10 grams of Yaba tablets, and 100 diazepam 5 mg tablets, suspected to be made in Bangladesh, from the house.

“In this regard, one case is being registered under the relevant sections of law at Sonamura PS,” reads the communique.

Festive offer

Tripura shares an 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, parts of which are still unfenced due to local disputes.
