    A 53-year-old booth-level officer (BLO) in West Bengal’s Nadia district allegedly died by suicide on Saturday, marking the third such death amid a Special Intensive Revision. Her family claims it was due to the “severe mental stress” she was under due to work related to the ongoing electoral exercise in the state. Read more

    Since 2002 SIR, steepest rise in voters in Bengal’s border districts

    West Bengal has seen a 66% increase in the number of registered voters — from 4.58 crore to 7.63 crore – since the last Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 2002. ECI data shows that of the top 10 districts with the highest increase in the number of voters, nine districts border Bangladesh.Uttar Dinajpur recorded the highest increase with 105.49% uptick.     4 dead, 3 injured as Shiv Sena candidate’s campaign car crashes into bikers on Thane flyover

    Shiv Sena candidate Kiran Chaubey’s car lost control on the Ambernath flyover in Thane district and crashed into bikers coming from the opposite direction, leaving four people dead.     3 months after death of 35 Vaishno Devi pilgrims, police in J&K say no evidence against shrine board officials

    Three months after a landslide claimed the lives of 35 pilgrims near Adhkunwari, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said no evidence was found to proceed against officials of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in connection with the incident. “No cognizable offence has been established against the authority,” said the Station House Officer of Bhawan police station in his Action Taken Report (ATR) submitted to the court of the Katra Sub Judge.
