US President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Ukraine’s leadership of showing “zero gratitude” for Washington’s support in its war against Russia, while also criticising European allies for continuing to buy Russian oil. “UKRAINE “LEADERSHIP” HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA. THE USA CONTINUES TO SELL MASSIVE $AMOUNTS OF WEAPONS TO NATO, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UKRAINE,” Trump said through a post on Truth Social. This comes amid high-level talks in Geneva between US and Ukrainian officials on a proposed plan to halt the conflict.Trump also claimed that the Russia-Ukraine war “would have never happened” under what he described as “strong and proper US and Ukrainian leadership,” accusing former President Joe Biden of enabling the conflict through what he called weak governance. The US president asserted that the war began “during the Sleepy Joe Biden Administration” and argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not have launched the invasion had he remained in office.“I INHERITED A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, A WAR THAT IS A LOSER FOR EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE SO NEEDLESSLY DIED,” Trump said.Zelenskyy has repeatedly expressed Ukraine’s gratitude, saying “thank you” on multiple occasions, even as Republicans in the White House have criticized him for allegedly not showing enough appreciation for US support.Meanwhile, the US and Russia have reportedly drawn up a 28-point roadmap to end the war, a framework that would require Ukraine to surrender both weapons and territory. Trump, facing fierce criticism from Ukrainians, insisted on Saturday that his proposed “peace plan” was “not my final offer.”When asked what would happen if Zelenskyy rejected the proposal, the US President responded, “then he can continue to fight his little heart out.”The plan drafted by Washington includes several of Moscow’s long-standing demands, from territorial concessions to cuts in Ukraine’s military and a freeze on Nato ambitions, while offering only limited security assurances. Putin said that although Russia had received the document, it “has not been discussed with us in any substantive way,” adding that Ukraine and its European partners “still dream of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia on the battlefield.”
