India welcomes UK action against Babbar Khalsa network

NEW DELHI: India on Monday welcomed the steps taken by the UK govt to sanction anti-India extremist entiti-es, which strengthen the global fight against terrorism and extremism and help curb illicit financial flows and transnational crime networks. The govt was responding to the UK’s announcement of an asset freeze against an individual suspected of belo-nging to the Babbar Khalsa terror group and an organisation for promoting and supporting the same group. According to UK authorities, this was the first use of the Domestic Counter-Terrorism Regime to disrupt funding for Pro-Khalistan militant group Babbar Khalsa.“We look forward to continuing to work closely with the UK side in further strengthening counterterrorism and security cooperation,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. The individual, Gurpreet Singh Rehal, is involved in Babbar Khalsa’s terrorist activities, including supporting and assisting those organisations, including thr-ough purchasing weapons and other military materiel.
