At least 30 residents of Delta 1 in Greater Noida complained of loose motion and stomach ache after allegedly consuming water mixed with sewage for the last three days. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), however, said that no evidence of sewage mixing with the water supply has been found.

“Despite several complaints filed with the GNIDA, no action has been taken. Earlier as well, nearly 15 residents from A block had fallen sick after consuming contaminated water,” Pankaj Nagar, Resident Welfare Association president of Delta 1, said.

Vijay Singh, an affected resident from house number C 200, said that for the last three days, he has been receiving yellow-coloured water at his home. “It seems that the water has been mixed with sewage. My children are suffering from diarrhea and I took them to the hospital today,” he added.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Medical Superintendent of Dankaur Primary Health Centre, Narayan Kishore, said that 30 people, including children, were examined at the health camp. “At least 5 to 6 complained of stomach ache. Prima facie, it appears that they fell sick after drinking contaminated water. The patients had mild symptoms… We will again set up a camp tomorrow,” he added.

Later in the day, GNIDA, in a statement, said that it had taken immediate notice of the contaminated water supply and repaired a leaking pipe. It added that a team from the Water department visited the site and tested the water.

“There was a problem with the supply connection in only one house, and a leak was found in a pipe at another location. Repairs were carried out immediately at both locations, but no evidence of sewage mixing with the water supply was found,” the statement said.

The department has collected samples to be sent for testing.

Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the incident, GNIDA CEO N G Ravi Kumar has ordered random testing of water at all locations in Greater Noida.
