A fire broke out and spread to a couple of houses in the Lower Parel area on Saturday after firecrackers were burst during a political campaign. The rally was organised for Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Kishori Pednekar. The NM Joshi Marg police booked the organiser and two party workers.

The booked suspects are identified as Ramchandra Yesade, organiser and two party workers Soham Sarvankar and Omsai Pansare.

According to the police, the campaign rally was organised in ward number 199 for the candidate Kishori Pednekar of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) on Saturday evening. The organiser Ramchandra Krishna Yesade has taken the police permission from the NM Joshi police station and Pednekar was supposed to visit along with her supporters in Irani chawl and Gowardhan building.

There were around 150 party workers gathered for the campaign. When Pednekar and her supporters reached in front of Govardhan building for a door to door visit, two party workers began bursting firecrackers on the road.

The police said they tried to stop them, but they did not listen. The burst firecrackers flung into a house on one plus structure and tarpaulin shade on the structure began burning. The crackers also went flying in one or two houses on the ground floor, said the official.

There was no serious damage due to the fire, and the fire brigade and the police reached the spot and doused the fire, an official said. The police registered FIR against Yesade, Soham Sarvankar, Omsai Pansare under sections 223 (a), 288, 125, 324 (4), 3 (5) of the BNS.
