The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections regarding inclusion, deletion, and name change in the electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to January 19.
In a press note issued on Friday, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal said, “In order to provide ample opportunity to eligible citizens for participating in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in West Bengal, Election Commission of India, vide Order No. 23/2025-ERS (Vol.II) dated 15/01/2026, has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections. Submission of Forms 6, 7, 8, which was initially scheduled to conclude on January 15, 2026, will now remain open until 19th January, 2026.”
It further read, “This extension tends to ensure wider public engagement for ensuring accuracy in the voter lists ahead of upcoming assembly elections. Eligible individuals are encouraged to submit Forms 6 (for new registrations), 7 (for objections), 8 (for corrections of entries) during this period.”
The note stated that forms can be filed directly with the booth-level officer (BLO) at the designated polling station, or with assistant electoral registration officer/electoral registration officer or online through the ECINet App or on the voters.eci.gov.in portal.
There are no restrictions on the number of Form 7 to be submitted by an elector. For assistance, a citizen can contact the nearest BLO or the toll-free number 1950.
Voters are urged to verify their names in the draft electoral rolls, available with BLOs and online, and take prompt action to ensure every eligible voter is enrolled, said the note.
The Election Commission, which had allowed Class 10 admit cards as proof of birth during SIR hearings, said in the latest note, “Commission’s instructions issued vide letter dated 27.10.2025 for the conduct of SIR in West Bengal, the Madhyamik (Class X) Admit Card is not listed as an admissible document for verification purposes. In view of the above, the Commission is of the opinion that the proposal to accept the Madhyamik (Class X) Admit Card as a valid document cannot be acceded to.”
