A heartwarming video showing an off-duty woman constable helping an ambulance pass through heavy traffic in Andhra Pradesh emerged on social media. It is not just the constable’s empathy in helping the ambulance that caught the internet’s eye, but also that she was carrying her toddler in her arms while performing the task.

The now-viral video, shared by Andhra Pradesh minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Nara Lokesh, has drawn widespread admiration, with netizens applauding the constable’s compassion.

Sharing the video on X, Lokesh wrote, “Saluting the spirit of service shown by a woman constable from Rangampeta PS. Even while off duty, carrying her baby, she stepped in to clear traffic on the Kakinada–Samarlakota road and ensured ambulances could move. This is policing beyond the call of duty.”

“Great. These words of appreciation will go a long way to boost the morale of such dedicated and devoted govt employees,” a user wrote. “Shame part is they don’t even have face masks to protect their health. Someone should be there to handover safety masks,” another user argued.

“Lokesh ji Appreciation certificate should be given to her for her service. She should be invited to SP’ office and be felicitated,” a third user reacted.

The woman constable, identified as Shanti, later said she was travelling with her two-and-a-half-year-old child when she noticed an ambulance stuck in traffic, TOI reported. Acting instinctively, she first handed her baby to fellow passengers and began clearing traffic on her own.

For nearly 40 minutes, Shanti managed the congested stretch single-handedly. When her child woke up and started crying, she resumed directing traffic with the baby in her arms.

She continued for almost two hours until additional police personnel arrived after being informed of the situation. Thanks to her persistence, the ambulance was eventually able to move through safely, the report added.
