Karan Johar Moves Court, CarryMinati’s Roast Video Taken Down Amid Defamation Row

MUMBAI: A court has directed popular YouTuber Ajey Nagar, better known as CarryMinati, to refrain from publishing “defamatory, vulgar, and abusive” content about filmmaker Karan Johar.According to news agency PTI, the order was passed by civil judge P G Bhosale on Monday in a suit filed by Johar, who alleged that certain videos circulating on social media sought to ridicule him and damage his reputation and goodwill “painstakingly built over decades.”

The court also directed social media platforms to remove Nagar’s existing videos targeting the filmmaker. Meta was specifically asked to take down the content in question.Besides Nagar, the suit names his manager Deepak Char, One Hand Clap Media Pvt Ltd, and tech giants Google and Meta as defendants.Johar, represented by DSK Legal, sought a temporary injunction to restrain Nagar and his associates from creating and uploading such material.During the hearing, the YouTuber’s lawyer submitted that the videos and other material in question had already been deleted and argued that there was no cause of action left. However, after hearing all sides, the civil judge held that “prima facie it appears that the defendant no 1 and 2 (Nagar and Char) have made defamatory statements and used vulgar language against the plaintiff”, and granted the temporary injunction. The case will be heard further at a later date.
