Stock market today: Nifty50 ends above 25,700; BSE Sensex up over 170 points – The Times of India

Stock market today: Nifty50 and BSE Sensex, the Indian equity benchmarks, ended in green for the second consecutive session on Tuesday, supported by buying interest in banking, information technology and capital goods stocks.The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 shares, rose 173.81 points or 0.21 percent to settle at 83,450.96. During the session, the index touched an intraday high of 83,598 and a low of 82,987.43. The 50-share NSE Nifty also edged higher, gaining 42.65 points or 0.17 percent to close at 25,725.40.Among Sensex stocks, major gainers included ITC, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, Asian Paints, Titan, Adani Ports, HCL Technologies, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Maruti Suzuki India, IndiGo, State Bank of India and Tech Mahindra.On the losing side were Eternal, Tata Steel, Trent, Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Hindustan Unilever.The broader market also showed strength, with the BSE Smallcap Select Index rising 0.49 percent and the Midcap Select Index advancing 0.26 percent.Across Asia, markets showed mixed trends. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index ended 0.47 percent lower, while trading in China, Hong Kong and South Korea remained suspended due to Lunar New Year holidays. European equities were trading higher in mid-session deals, while markets in the United States were closed on Monday for Presidents’ Day.According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 972.13 crore on Monday, whereas domestic institutional investors made net purchases amounting to Rs 1,666.98 crore.Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, declined 0.79 percent to USD 68.13 per barrel.In the previous session, the Sensex had rallied 650.39 points to finish at 83,277.15, while the Nifty gained 211.65 points to end at 25,682.75.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own.
