Amid rapid US military deployment to West Asia despite talks of peace negotiations, Iran has fired a warning shot, announcing that it “struck” the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group.

Tehran had earlier said it will target the Nimitz class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier as soon as it comes within the range of its missile systems, Iran’s navy commander Shahram Irani was quoted as saying by Iran’s official news broadcaster Press TV.

Iran rejects ceasefire proposal: Report

The US-Israel Iran war has raged on with no let-up in air strikes against Tehran, or Iranian drone and missile strikes against Jerusalem and American allies. Iran has rejected the 15-point peace proposal by United States, which was aimed at ending the ongoing war and stressed a ceasefire agreement will be made on Tehran’s own terms and timeline, Iran media reported.

“Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met,” an Iranian official told Tehran’s Press TV.

Pakistan had offered to mediate between US and Iran and a senior official in Turkey told Reuters that Ankara was also “playing a role ‌passing messages” between Tehran and Washington. Iran continued to rubbish negotiation claims and a top Iran’s joint military command official Ebrahim Zolfaqari took a dig at US President Donald Trump and said, “Has the level of your inner struggle reached the stage of you negotiating with yourself?”

“People like us can never get along with people like you,” he said. “As we have always said … no one like us will make a deal with you. Not now. Not ever.”

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmail Beghaei, while addressing media in New Delhi streesed that nuclear talks had already been under way when Trump attacked, which he called “a betrayal of diplomacy” that proved further talks were pointless.

“No one can trust United States diplomacy. Our position is clear on what they have claimed. Right now, our brave military is focused on defending Iran’s territory and sovereignty against this brutal and illegal war.”

Strikes pound Tehran, Jerusalem

Air strikes continued to pound residential area in Tehran, with rescuers searching the rubble, semi-official Iranian SNN news agency said. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia said they had intercepted fresh drone attacks. Drones targeted a fuel tank at Kuwait International Airport, causing a fire but no casualties, Kuwait’s Civil Aviation Authority said.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had launched a new wave of attacks against locations ‌in Israel including Tel Aviv and Kiryat Shmona, as well as US bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain.
