TORRANCE, Calif.,April 2,2026–American Honda Motor Co., Inc., today announcedthat more than one million students have taken part inits innovativeHonda Safety Drivenyoung driver safety initiativein partnership with Discovery Education.Withnearly one-third ofannual traffic fatalitiesin the U.S. involving drivers under the age of 25,themulti-yearsafety educationprogramis working toequipyoung driversacross the countrywiththeknowledge and skillsneeded to drivemoresafely.

Even as Honda engineers continue to advance vehicle design and performance, the company believes technology alone is not enough to achieveitschallenging goalofzero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles by 2050.TheHondasafety strategyis committed to further advancing safety for everyone sharing the roadthrough three domains:advancingtechnology, augmentingsafety awarenesseffortstoinfluencedriver behavior, and working with government, industryand community partnerstoimprovethe traffic safety ecosystem. In other words, Honda isseekingto achieve Safety for Everyone, with everyone.

“We are proud toachievethis important milestoneofone millionstudents with our safety-awareness programbut our real goal is zero – as in zero fatalities in traffic collisions involving our vehicles,” saidMJ Foxley, Safety Strategy leaderatAmericanHondaMotor Co., Inc. “Research consistently shows that human behavior is a key factor in the majority of traffic fatalitiesin the U.S.,andHonda Safety Drivenaims to buck that trend bytoimprovingyoung driver behaviorthrough innovative andfun educational experiences.”

Honda Safety Driven
TheHonda Safety Driveninitiative,in partnership withDiscovery Education, applies real-world Science, Technology Engineering, ArtsandMathematics(STEAM) conceptsto empower studentswithsafe driving skillsand encourageresponsible decision-making.The educational initiative launched in Oct. 2023 with a virtual field trip for students in grades 3-12, bringing them inside Honda’s one-of-a-kind Automotive Safety Research Facility in Raymond,Ohioand the Driving Simulation Laboratory at The Ohio State University. To date, this virtual field trip has reached more than250,000 students, and educators are expected to continue to use it each new school year as part of their evolving curriculum.

For thisthirdyear of theprogram, Honda launcheda video series calledHonda Safety in Action: From Racetrack to Roadway – It Takes All of Us, featuring IndyCardriverand Indy 500 winnerScott Dixonand champion motocross riders Jett and Hunter Lawrence of the Honda HRC Progressive racing team, demonstrating how racing at high speeds can inspire real-world safe riding and driving habits. The two-part video series explored safety for both four-wheel and two-wheel vehicles, includingbikes, e-bikes, scooters, and motorcycles, giving Hondaa new wayto interest and engage with students by translating elite racing insights into practical, everyday safety tips.

“Safetyisn’tjust about whata vehicle can do;it’sabout the choices people make. Our work with Honda meets students early, helping them understand how judgment, awareness, and behavior play a role in keeping themselves and others safe. Reaching one million students shows what’s possible when educationand industry work together with purpose,”said Catherine Dunlop, senior vice president of Corporate Partnerships at Discovery Education.

Honda Safety Drivenalsolaunchednew program elements in 2024,the second year of the program, withtwo safety education resources online and through Discovery Education’s network. This includedaninteractive crash test video game called “Crash Course” to entertain and educate students about the physics of a car crash and how different factors can affect the level of risk to passengers, anda digital lesson bundle called“Pedestrian Safety”thatteachesstudents about road safety for those not behind the wheel. An educator guide, presentation, family action plans, and accompanying e-bike and e-scooter safety student activity take the learning further.
