Kanpur: 15-year-old boy killed in wedding dispute over chicken piece

KANPUR: A 15-year-old boy was bludgeoned to death at a wedding feast in Aher village under Tirva police station area of Kannauj after he stood up for his grandfather, who was being humiliated for requesting a chicken leg piece. According to the police, the incident occurred on Friday night when the boy, 15, stood up for his grandfather, 65, who had requested a chicken leg piece during a walima (wedding feast) and was mocked for it by the accused and his four brothers. The situation escalated and the accused attacked the boy, dragging him outside the tent and striking him with bricks on the chest and back. The boy was rushed to the government medical college where he succumbed to his injuries. The accused fled the scene. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. During the fight, the boy’s father, grandfather and cousin were also injured.Kannauj superintendent of police Vinod Kumar, circle officer Tirva Kulveer Singh, and inspector-in-charge Sanjay Kumar Shukla arrived with additional police forces to calm the agitated family members and assured them of appropriate action. The village remains tense with a heavy police presence. Kumar said that an FIR has been lodged following a complaint. Shukla said that the police are investigating all aspects and raids are underway to arrest all five siblings.
