BENGALURU: A 14-year-old boy’s mother landed in legal trouble as her son accused her of assaulting him and causing a severe injury to his hand after he intervened in a fight between his mother and father.Based on the boy’s complaint, Avalahally police registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) against his mother. Police have served a notice to the boy’s mother to appear before the investigating officer for necessary action. The boy underwent treatment at Dr Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital for his injuries. According to his statement to police from his hospital bed, his mother assaulted him at 8.30pm on Sept 25. The boy, a student of Class IX at a private school, was in his room with his younger brother when he heard his parents engaged in a verbal fight. As their argument was disturbing his studies, he asked his parents to stop fighting. As he almost shouted at his parents, his mother got angry and pushed him so hard that he fell and injured his left hand.

Do you believe that the boy’s decision to intervene in the fight was justified?

The boy alleged that his mother got slippers and assaulted him multiple times. When he tried to stop her, his mother scratched his chest and back and injured him. His father tried to stop her, but his efforts were in vain. He claimed that his mother then brought a small knife and tried to attack him. After this, his father managed to stop her and rushed him to the hospital. The boy told police that his mother also assaulted him on Sept 23, and he was treated in the outpatient department of the same hospital. A senior officer said it appeared the couple had some dispute, and the boy was taking his father’s side. “We will interrogate the mother and record the statement of the boy again. We will then know the exact reason. The mother and the boy will be counselled,” the officer added.
