An intern at Lucknow’s King George Medical University (KGMU) has been arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting a nursing student on false promise of marriage, among other charges, by the Qaiserbagh police.
This comes over a week after a junior resident doctor in the Pathology Department, Rameezuddin, was arrested for alleged forced conversion and sexual exploitation — sparking unrest and leaving the varsity to fend off claims that a “love jihad” network is running from its campus.

Police said the intern and the student belong to the Muslim community and the latter had been pursuing nursing from a Lucknow institution.
The SHO of Qaiserbagh police station, Anjani Kumar Mishra, told The Indian Express that the police had lodged the case based on the victim’s complaint and her statement too has been recorded.
The accused was held on Thursday near Red Cross Hospital in Qaiserbagh. He was produced before the court and sent to jail, the SHO added.
He has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), 308 (extortion) and 319 (cheating by personation).
The nursing student, in the FIR lodged on December 29 last year, had alleged that the KGMU intern was sexually exploiting her and assuring her of marriage for several months.

The woman, belonging to another district, said she came in contact with him through a common friend. She alleged that the accused befriended her and later entered into a physical relationship. He used to take her to his flat in the Qaiserbagh area, she alleged.
However, she alleged, the accused refused to marry her when she started asking him about their wedding. He also threatened to circulate her intimate photos on social media, she alleged.
KGMU spokesperson Dr K K Singh told The Indian Express that the intern had already been suspended since he stopped coming to the university. After the case was lodged against him, he had given an application seeking leave for three days and moved to extend that. “But the university refused, stating that he has been booked in such a case. Since he stopped coming, he was suspended,” Singh said.
He further said, “KGMU would not be continuing his internship if he is released from jail on bail… His application will be forwarded to the office of the Director General, Medical Education (DGME), which takes decisions on internship applications. The DGME may consider his fresh internship from another institution, but KGMU will not allow it.”
