Ankur Warikoo, entrepreneur and author, recently revealed that his driver earns over Rs 50,000 a month, well above the typical driver’s salary in India. In a post on X, Warikoo gave a shoutout to his long-time driver, Dayanand Bhaiya, who receives an 11 per cent annual increment, is treated like a family member, has access to their house keys, and even knows the family’s ATM PIN.

Dayanand’s latest raise has pushed his monthly salary to Rs 53,350, putting him at more than Rs 6 lakh annually, higher than many entry-level jobs in other sectors. Along with a generous salary, he also receives health insurance, a one-month Diwali bonus, and this year, a scooter as an additional gift.

“He joined us 13 years ago at Rs. 15,000 and has since become an integral part of our family while building his own life,” Warikoo wrote.

He described Dayanand as far more than a driver, calling him a “trusted partner” to the family. “He drives our children to classes, holds duplicate house keys, knows our ATM PIN, handles all important errands that don’t require our presence, treats me as his own (addresses everyone in the family as tum and not aap) and is someone I trust blindly with the safety of my family and myself,” he added.

In 2024, Warikoo’s businesses generated Rs 16.84 crore ($2 million) in revenue. Calling Dayanand’s role invaluable, the entrepreneur said the driver saves the family “time, mental load and effort.” Sharing a photo with him, Warikoo added, “He has been one of the best uses of our money, and I can’t wait for him to reach Rs 1 lakh per month in the next 5–6 years.”

In the comments, he clarified that Dayanand receives an 11 per cent raise every year.

The video quickly gained traction, sparking a wave of reactions. “Great that you are covering Insurance as part of compensation. Hope others are also driven to do this for their staff – the additional cost for employers is negligible but benefits for employees is significant. Also help with financial planning / accessing benefits,” a user wrote. “This is the right way to treat employees. Dignity of labour goes for everyone. Proud of you, Ankur,” another user commented.

“He is definitely an outlier. Driver salary has been stagnant for over couple of decades. Same 8-10k in 2007-2008 to 20-22k today. Kudos to you,” a third user reacted.
