A shooter with a rifle opened fire at a building from a nearby roof that housed immigration detainees of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, killing one detainee and two others in a critical condition while the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

The shooter, identified by authorities as Joshua Jahn, fired indiscriminately at the ICE building and a nearby unmarked van before taking his own life, law enforcement officials said, CNN reported. One of the injured detainees belongs to Mexico, according to Mexico’s foreign ministry.

The authorities are investigating the exact reason behind the shootout, however, a photo posted by FBI Director Kash Patel on social media showed a bullet found from the scene with “ANTI-ICE” written on it. It was the unused ammunition recovered from the scene and the phrase on of the casing appeared to be a marker, BBC reported.

This morning just before 7am local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF are on the ground with Dallas PD and state authorities.

None of the law enforcement officials was injured during the shooting in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday at the ICE facility. It is the latest string of attacks on ICE facilities in recent months as the agency ramps up its efforts to fulfil promises made by US President Donald Trump to deport illegal immigrants.

Also, it is the latest string of targeted attacks in public after the killing of conservative leader Charlie Kirk by a rifle-wielding shooter from a roof nearby at a Utah university on September 10.
