RICHMOND, Virginia (WDBJ) – Attorney General Jason Miyares has released a 69-page report on the Virginia Parole Board. His remarks detail a serious violation of parole board policy and repeated state law under former chairman Adrian Bennett. Ralph Northam is in office. The report describes the chaotic atmosphere surrounding the parole grant frenzy at the parole board in March-April 2020. It’s time for us to look deeper into her commission’s dangerous practices,” Miyares said. .
The investigation and final report were made in response to Executive Order 3 of Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin.
Attorney General Miyares issued the following statement on the report:
“Under Chairman Adrian Bennett, the Virginia Parole Board has released dozens of violent felons contrary to parole board policy, often in clear violation of court orders or Virginia state law. Judge Bennett’s brazen abuse of power endangered the safety of Virginians and put criminals first, without regard for victims and their safety. We have made it possible to promote agenda items that put victims first.
“I thank my team for their efforts to put together this report and work with the General Assembly and the current parole board to promote trust and transparency in their actions so that victims of violent crimes are never ignored again. The reckless disregard for the law described in my office report must never be repeated.”
