Delhi air quality improves to 150 after winter rain, with AQI in 'moderate' category; shallow fog likely during night hours

NEW DELHI: Delhi saw a marked improvement in air quality after a winter rain on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 150 at 8 am, placing it in the “moderate” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).While the rain added to the city’s chilly weather, it offered much-needed relief from persistent pollution.

Delhi-NCR weather partly cloudy with light winds; GRAP Stage III revoked as air quality improvesThe India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted partly cloudy skies over Delhi-NCR, with surface winds reaching 10-15 km/h and shallow fog likely during night hours. The current temperature stands at 7.4°C.As the fog lifts, iconic sights like the Taj Mahal in Agra continue to offer picturesque views. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has revoked Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR following the improvement in air quality and favorable forecast trends. However, authorities have urged citizens to continue following the citizen charter under GRAP Stages II and I, given the winter season and the possibility of fluctuating weather conditions, to ensure AQI levels remain stable. As per AQI classification, a reading between 0 and 50 is ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.Meanwhile, the Sub-Committee on the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) under the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked all Stage III measures across Delhi-NCR with immediate effect on January 22, citing improved air quality and favorable forecast trends.(With agency inputs)
