The Centre further said that the shift to digital payments in schools will be an “important stride in aligning educational administration with the Government’s broader goal of Digital Transformation”. File

The Ministry of Education has written to States and Union Territories, encouraging the adoption of Unified Payments Interface (UPI), mobile payments, and net banking, for school-related financial transactions, the Government said on Saturday (October 11, 2025) in a statement.

The Education Ministry’s Department of School Education and Literacy sent this letter as part of its efforts to promote “Ease of Living and Schooling”.

“The Department has encouraged all States and Union Territories (UTs) and Autonomous Bodies under the Ministry, such as NCERT, CBSE, KVS, NVS, to explore and implement mechanisms that enable schools to collect admission and examination fees through secure and transparent digital modes,” the statement said.

The Education Ministry’s communication cited “multiple advantages” of transitioning from cash to digital transactions, including convenience and transparency, the statement said.

The Centre further said that the shift to digital payments in schools will be an “important stride in aligning educational administration with the Government’s broader goal of Digital Transformation”.

It added, “This would also enable all stakeholders to become more financially literate, thereby opening up a larger world of digital transactions.”
