Against this backdrop, IIT Kharagpur’s placement trends for 2023 and 2024 and the eventual outlook for 2025 reflect strong recruiter turnout, rising offer volumes, and continued interest from global technology, analytics, semiconductor, finance, and product companies. According to official data cited by media reports, IIT Kharagpur has seen steady growth in total offers over these three years, with major multinational firms, high-paying tech employers, and core engineering companies maintaining a significant presence in the recruitment process.

The ongoing 2025 Phase 1 placement, as per reports, also indicates sustained demand for BTech graduates across specialisations.

IIT Kharagpur BTech Placements 2025

The 2025 placement drive, which began on December 1, 2024, has already crossed 1,800 offers, according to official data reported in the media. This indicates a healthy start compared to previous cycles. The highest package during this phase has touched Rs 2.14 crore per annum, offered by a global technology firm, continuing the institute’s trend of receiving crore-plus offers almost every year.

Across undergraduate programmes, around 1,085 students have already been placed in the initial weeks of the drive. While the final average and sector-wise breakdown for BTech is yet to be released, the BTech median salary is expected to align closely with the previous year’s Rs 19.76 lakh, based on the institute’s NIRF disclosures.

Recruitment this year has been led by high-end technology and finance companies, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Capital One, DE Shaw, Quantbox, Databricks and Qualcomm, among other international and Indian employers. As per reports, student interest continues to be strongest in software, data science, quantitative finance, product development and research engineering roles.

IIT Kharagpur BTech Placements 2024

The 2024 placement cycle continued the institute’s strong performance, with 1,747 total offers recorded and a highest package of Rs 2.6 crore per annum, cited by official sources and media reports. Recruiter turnout was strong across technology, consulting, analytics, core engineering and product-based profiles.

Of the BTech students registered for placements, 546 out of 685 were placed, marking a placement rate of 79.7%, in line with the institute’s long-term averages. The median BTech salary for 2024 stood at Rs 19.76 lakh, reported in the institute’s NIRF submission.

Companies such as ITC Limited, Gartner, Barclays, Oracle, IBM, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Google were among the prominent recruiters. Technology and core engineering companies contributed a significant share of the offers, and there was a rise in data-driven and AI-focused hiring, according to media reports.

IIT Kharagpur BTech Placements 2023

For the 2023 graduating batch, IIT Kharagpur reported over 1,600 total offers, according to publicly available placement summaries referenced by the media. The year also recorded one of the highest packages seen across all IITs, touching Rs 2.68 crore per annum.

Out of 580 BTech students registered, 460 were placed, reflecting consistent demand from recruiters across sectors. Although a consolidated placement rate was not officially issued, the institute’s data shows solid hiring activity across software engineering, analytics, R&D and core branches.

Major companies included Google, Microsoft, Micron, Uber, Honeywell, IBM and Qualcomm, with technology and semiconductor firms showing particularly strong participation that year.

Branch-wise placement performance

According to official institute submissions and media-reported data, CSE continues to be the highest performing department at IIT Kharagpur across all three placement cycles. In 2024, the highest domestic package for a BTech CSE student was around Rs 1 crore, while the median salary stood at approximately Rs 29.21 lakh. Placement rates for CSE regularly cross the 90% mark, making it one of the most competitive branches at the institute.

The Electrical Engineering department also reported strong outcomes, with the 2023–24 recruitment cycle recording a highest package of around Rs 66 lakh and an average salary close to Rs 23.3 lakh. Recruiters in semiconductor design, hardware engineering, power systems, consulting and technology strategy formed a major share of the offers.

The Mechanical Engineering department maintained steady performance, with a placement rate of about 84.5% in 2024, a median salary of roughly Rs 16 lakh, and highest offers reaching Rs 82.69 lakh in recent drives. Students secured roles across manufacturing, automotive design, R&D, supply chain, energy systems and industrial analytics.
