Industrialist’s bahu found dead in south Delhi: ‘Suicide’ victim was dragged, assaulted when she was pregnant, says mom
Industrialist’s bahu found dead in south Delhi:

NEW DELHI: The FIR filed in connection with the alleged suicide of an industrialist’s daughter-in-law in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, states that she had been “isolated from social events and subjected to prolonged mental and physical abuse.”Her mother has sought a CBI probe into the circumstances of her death.

According to the FIR, the woman had faced repeated violence and humiliation at her marital home over the years. The mother’s allegations, as detailed in the complaint, include:

  • Dragged and assaulted while pregnant: In February–March 2011, the husband and mother-in-law allegedly dragged her from the first floor of the family home and assaulted her during pregnancy.
  • Family intervention: After the victim informed her mother, the family travelled to Delhi. The in-laws apologised and assured such behaviour would not recur.
  • Extramarital affair discovered: A month after the child’s birth, she allegedly found evidence of her husband’s affair, prompting her parents to bring her and her infant son back to Howrah.
  • Pressure to keep matters quiet: A year later, the in-laws allegedly visited the parental home, urging the family not to “speak of the matter in society” and promising to take care of her.
  • Written assurance from husband: She was sent back with a written guarantee that her husband would not resort to violence again.
  • Abuse resumed after 2–3 years: The mother alleged that her daughter was again mistreated, defamed in society, excluded from functions and often left alone at home.
  • Phone access restricted: Her husband allegedly kept multiple locks on his phone, barring her from using it.
  • Obscene content found: In April 2024, she reportedly accessed his phone while he was away in Dubai and found obscene material, leading to a confrontation.

The victim reportedly called her mother at 7.30am on 25th November saying she had fought with her husband over her son’s mobile phone. Later, calls to her went unanswered. The mother-in-law allegedly said she was at the airport; the son-in-law claimed he was returning from the gym. Also read: ‘Don’t speak of it in society’: Inside ‘secrecy’, ‘strain’ before industrialist’s Bahu death in DelhiAround noon, the family received a call informing them that the woman had been taken to hospital and had died. When TOI contacted the family lawyer, there was no response.
