Global manhunt ends at US-Canada border: Lawrence Bishnoi aide Jagdeep Jagga held; Rajasthan AGTF, ICE pull off high-stakes op

JAIPUR: In a significant step in collaborating with international law enforcement agencies and bring to justice criminals wanted in the state who had fled abroad, the Rajasthan anti-gangster task force (AGTF) Monday succeeded in getting Jagdeep Singh, alias Jagga, a prominent member of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, detained near the US-Canada border. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers who detained Jagga, a key operative under gang member Rohit Godara. He had been under AGTF’s radar for a long time due to his involvement in serious criminal activities across Rajasthan and Punjab, and is wanted in over a dozen pending cases, with arrest warrants issued by courts in Rajasthan for offences, ranging from jumping bail to attempted murder.

“Jagga is a notorious criminal with a history of violent crimes. His detention marks a crucial step in dismantling the transnational operations of the Bishnoi gang,” said Dinesh MN, additional director general of AGTF. The task force’s success was attributed to precise intelligence gathering and strategic international cooperation. Jagga, who fled India three years ago, initially moved to Dubai before illegally entering the United States. His capture was the result of meticulous surveillance and coordinated efforts between Indian authorities and international law enforcement agencies. Jagga’s criminal activities are extensive, which includes a 2017 incident when he allegedly attempted to murder Dr Sunil Chandak in Jaipur’s Pratap Nagar police station area. He has also been implicated in the murder of Vasudev Israni in Jodhpur’s Sardarpura and known to be involved in extortion and firearm-related crimes abroad. The AGTF is now working on expediting Jagga’s deportation to India to face charges against him. “The operation underscores our commitment to pursuing criminals relentlessly, regardless of geographical boundaries,” Dinesh MN told TOI .
