Kerala Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE Updates: The counting for the local body elections in Kerala began at 8 AM on Saturday. The Congress-led UDF is in the lead in most of the local bodies in cities and towns, while the NDA has won the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation for the first time.

Two-phase voting: The polls were held in Kerala in two phases on December 9 and 11 in 1,199 of the total 1,200 local bodies in Kerala. Mattannur municipality in Kannur district did not go to polls this time as elections are due in September 2027. Voter turnout across seven districts in Kerala, in Phase 2, was recorded to be 76.08 per cent. In the first phase of polling, which concluded on December 9, the turnout was 70.91 per cent. The elections are being held to elect representatives to municipal corporations, municipalities, gram panchayats, block panchayats and district panchayats.

Why does this election matter?: The outcome of the Kerala local body polls will shape political momentum ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Local body results have often signalled voter mood, verdicts in 2010 and 2015 went against the ruling front, and the Opposition later won the 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections.
