AAP Leader Lucky Oberoi Shot Dead Outside Gurdwara In Jalandhar, Raising Fresh Law Order Fears

CHANDIGARH: A CCTV video has emerged showing the fatal shooting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary Lucky Oberoi outside a gurdwara in the upscale Model Town area of Punjab’s Jalandhar city early on Friday morning. The brazen attack took place during the morning hours at around 7.35am on a street burstling from vehicles and devotees heading towards gurdwara.

AAP Leader Lucky Oberoi Shot Dead Outside Gurdwara In Jalandhar, Raising Fresh Law Order Fears

As Lucky Oberoi stepped out of the Gurdwara, unlocked his Mahindra Thar parked outside, a hooded youth casually walked towards the SUV and suddenly fired shots at Lucky from close range while he remained seated on the wheels. The CCTV visuals showed that the killer waited for Lucky Oberoi to settle in the car first minimising all the chances of his possible escape. After firing a few shots on Lucky, the shooter ran towards an emerging scooter from a nearby lane and sped away from the spot. The whole attack took just 10 seconds.According to police, Oberoi was seated inside his Thar SUV when at least two attackers arrived on a scooter and opened fire. Oberoi sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where he later died.Police said the assailants fired several bullets before escaping. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and have launched a manhunt to identify the shooters and establish the motive behind the killing.Oberoi’s wife, Simarjot Kaur, had contested last year’s municipal corporation elections on an AAP ticket. Oberoi was considered close to Rajwinder Thiara, the party’s in-charge for the Jalandhar Cantt constituency. He worked as a financier and was also involved in the property business. Oberoi lived in the Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar area of Jalandhar.Police said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
