In a bid to develop Maharashtra as a major gems and jewellery industry hub at the global level, the Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved the State’s Gem and Jewellery Policy 2025, which aims to attract ₹1 lakh crore worth of investments and create jobs for five lakh youth.

“The period of the Maharashtra Gems and Jewellery Policy will be from 2025 to 2030. A provision of ₹1,651 crore will be made for incentives for the implementation of the policy. A total provision of ₹13,835 crore, including about ₹12,184 crore, was approved for the next 20 years, i.e. from 2031 to 2050. A financial provision of ₹100 crore has been made available for the implementation of the policy for the years 2025-26,” the government said in a press statement.

The industrial units covered under this policy will be provided with financial and other facilities and incentives. This will include interest subsidy, incentives for increased investment, stamp duty concessions, electricity tariff and tariff concessions, cluster development, employee provident fund contribution, skill development assistance, necessary facilities and incentives for exports, incentives for branding-designing-packaging-marketing, one-window scheme, plug and play facilities, uninterrupted power and water supply, and additional carpet index.

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has welcomed the government policy. “The new policy will give a strong push to the entire ecosystem — from manufacturing and exports to skill development and employment generation. It is designed to promote ease of doing business, modernize manufacturing units, encourage innovation, and strengthen training and skilling infrastructure across the state,” said Kirit Bhansali, chairperson of GJEPC.
