NEW DELHI: A woman from Manipur was allegedly assaulted after she confronted a group of men for making offensive remarks near the Saket District Court Complex on Sunday evening, police said. According to officials, the woman and her friend were walking near a park in the area when several men allegedly passed inappropriate comments at them. When the woman objected, a verbal altercation ensued and allegedly turned into a physical attack. The victim sustained injuries and was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Police said she is in stable condition. After receiving information about the incident, a police team reached the spot and spoke with the victim. Officials said further legal action will be taken based on her statement. In a separate case earlier this month, a couple accused of racially abusing and threatening three women from Arunachal Pradesh in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, was sent to 14-day judicial custody. Police said the incident took place on February 20, when the three women — tenants in an apartment complex — alleged they were subjected to harassment and humiliation, which later escalated into a confrontation. An FIR was registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to insulting the modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation and promoting enmity between groups. Relevant provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have also been invoked, police said. The investigation is being handled by an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and is being monitored by senior officials. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused in the Saket incident. (With agency inputs)
