STARKVILLE, Mississippi — Mississippi showcases the work of skilled Mississippi printmakers in a new art exhibition opening Thursday [Jan. 26] Along with various related events until February 25th.
Laurel-based printmaker Sean Star Wars presents his bold, multi-colored self-proclaimed show ‘Shaun Star Wars: American Dream/Mississippi Nightmare’ at MSU’s Visual Arts Center Gallery at 808 University Drive. The gallery, which is free and open to the public, is open Monday through Friday from 1pm to 6pm and Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.
Star Wars, whose prints have been featured on hit TV shows like The Big Bang Theory and Workaholics, will give a free talk on his work on Thursday. [Jan. 26] A printmaking workshop will be held in Briscoe Hall Room 204 at 1:00 pm and thereafter from 2:00 to 4:30 pm. An opening reception will be held at the gallery from 5-6pm.
In addition to the exhibition, a skateboard desk design and painting workshop will be held on February 16th from 6-7pm at the MSU Idea Shop on Main Street in Starkville. Campus and community attendees can bring their own skateboards or pick up boards from limited inventory. Paints, brushes and other decorations are provided.
Star Wars is a full-time member of the international Outlaw Printmakers Artist Collective and holds a master’s degree in printmaking from Louisiana State University. He is the owner of his Woodcut Funhouse in Laurel where he lives with his wife and his five children. His work can be seen on book covers, album covers, magazines and films.
