Mumbai monorail halts at Wadala due to technical glitch; passengers shifted

MUMBAI: Mumbai’s monorail services were disrupted yet again on Monday after a train heading towards Wadala abruptly halted due to a power supply snag between Antophill Bus Depot and GTB Nagar stations around 7.16am.Officials said around 17 passengers were stranded inside the stalled rake. As per protocol, commuters were swiftly shifted to another train with the help of Monorail staff and the Mumbai Fire Brigade, and were safely taken to the next station by 7.40am. No injuries were reported. The affected train was later towed away, and services were restored by 8.50 am, a Monorail spokesperson said. For commuters, services between Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk and Wadala were running on a single line with delays until 9.15 am, while Wadala–Chembur trains remained operational. This is the second instance of services being suspended in as many months.

How do you feel about the safety measures taken during the recent monorail disruption?

On August 18, a monorail halted between Bhakti Park and Mysore Colony at 6.38 pm due to a power cut. The rake weighed 109 tonnes — four tonnes above the limit — and passengers complained of suffocation after the ventilation system failed. On August 21, services were briefly halted for 15 minutes due to excess passenger load at Acharya Atre Nagar station.
