(RTTNews) – Public transport operator National Express Group PLC (NEX.L) announced on Monday that its division National Express Rail GmbH has won a contract worth 1 billion euros for rail operations in Germany.
The contract is to operate the RE1 and RE11 Rhein-Ruhr-Express or RRX lines in Germany until 2033.
The company said it signed an emergency contract in February 2022 and took over the operation of the two lines, successfully mobilizing in a short period of time.
Following the award of the new contract, National Express now operates all three asset-light RRX lots under long-term contracts.
With the latest contract, National Express said it would be the region’s second-largest rail carrier, carrying 20 million kilometers of trains expected in 2023.
