How do simple changes help?

Cooking at home is one of the best ways to take charge of your health. “You know exactly what goes into your food; there are no hidden fats, sugars, or preservatives. Beetroot and spinach are great sources of iron, folate, and antioxidants. Mashed potatoes and sooji provide energy and texture. These wholesome combinations help improve digestion, support immunity, and keep energy levels steady throughout the day. Making small swaps like this can lead to a big impact over time,” said Dt Gulnaaz Shaikh, chief dietitian, KIMS Hospitals, Thane.

What should people note when making similar lifestyle changes?

The key is consistency, not perfection. “Start with one healthy habit at a time, like cooking one meal at home each day or swapping refined grains for whole ones. Don’t overload your plate with ‘superfoods’ just because they’re popular. Balance is crucial: include a mix of vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats. Also, remember hydration. Drink enough water, especially if you’ve increased your fibre intake,” said Shaikh.
