Unlike in the previous regime from 2014 to 2019, when N Chandrababu Naidu unveiled various models of Amaravati buildings such as Buddhist stupa or diamond with much fanfare, the Andhra Pradesh Government Wednesday quietly put on display miniature models of the upcoming government complexes in the capital city.

The models give the people of the state a glimpse of the capital city’s future infrastructure. These models have been created to provide the public with a first-hand experience of how the original complexes will appear after completion, Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) Commissioner K Kanna Babu said.

The government complexes include the Legislative Assembly, the high court, the 50-storey Andhra Pradesh State Secretariat, four 42-storey Head of Department (HoD) Towers, and the General Administration Department (GAD) Complex. The miniatures also showcase advanced metro lines, an iconic bridge, and other major infrastructure and transport facilities planned for the capital city.

In his previous regime, Naidu had showcased a model of high court complex in the shape of a Buddhist stupa, symbolic of the region which was a Buddhist centre for centuries, while the Legislative Complex was shaped like a diamond. The designs of AP High Court and Assembly Complex which would house both Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council were among various proposals submitted by Foster & Partners for various buildings.

In contrast, the models unveiled Wednesday are simple but promise to be futuristic with a lot of aesthetics. The central vista, with lots of parks, waterbodies, and boulevards, is included in the new models.

These miniature models reflect the government’s commitment to deliver the same landmark structures as promised to the people of Andhra Pradesh, the APCRDA said. The models are currently on display at the 11th Amaravati Property Festival, organised by the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), Central Zone, under the aegis of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, being held in Vijayawada from September 19 to 21. The public can view and experience them during this event.

After the three-day exhibition, the models will be relocated to the APCRDA Project Office at Lingayapalem, where they will be open to public viewing.

On Wednesday, the state government also gave permission to the APCRDA to provide relief to the farmers who gave land to build the capital, Amaravati.

Assigned lands are lands allocated by governments to ex-servicemen, SCs and STs, and poor, landless beneficiaries, which cannot be sold or given away to a third party. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana said the farmers who have given assigned land to the CRDA under the land pooling system are unhappy and complained that returnable flats allotted to landowners are being sold at a low price the land is categorised as “assigned” in the land pooling ownership certificate.

After examining the issue Wednesday, the CM instructed CRDA to remove the word ‘assigned’ from the Land Pooling Ownership Certificate issued by the government and to mention it as ‘Patta Bhumi’ (legal land deed).
