PORTLAND, Oregon (KGW) — The Oregon Attorney General announced Monday the launch of a hotline to provide people with guidance on the state’s reproductive health law.
The announcement from Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum comes a day after the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. Roe v. Wade was overturned by the court in June 2021.
The phone number for the Oregon Reproductive Rights Hotline is 503-431-6460.
The Supreme Court ruling didn’t change Oregon law, and abortion remains legal in the state, but Rosenblum said the hotline could serve as a resource for those unsure about what the law is. rice field.
“The hotline fills an important need in the state for callers to understand the state of the Reproductive Health Act, including issues related to access to abortion. It’s especially important because it shares a border with Idaho, which is home to the United States,” Rosenblum said in a statement.
Idaho is one of several states that have almost completely banned abortion. In early January 2023, the Idaho Supreme Court dismissed a series of lawsuits challenging the state’s almost outright criminalization of abortion. The law came into force in her August 2022 and included legislation criminalizing all abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy.
Several law firms in Oregon offer free legal advice on abortion. Our attorney team will return calls within 48 hours after receiving a call through the Oregon Bar Association’s Attorney Referral Service.
“I am very grateful to this wonderful group of local attorneys who are energetic, ready to answer callers’ questions and help us navigate the post-law era,” said Rosenblum.
