Parasakthi trailer and release date: With less than a week to go for the movie’s worldwide release, the makers of director Sudha Kongara’s Parasakthi have ramped up promotions and unveiled the official trailer on Sunday, December 4. The 3.17-minute promo video makes it clear that the period political action drama is set against the backdrop of the anti-Hindi imposition agitations that rocked Tamil Nadu in the decades immediately after India attained independence.

The trailer opens in 1964, offering glimpses of the seemingly uneventful lives of the characters played by Sivakarthikeyan and Atharvaa. However, things change once “a law is passed to enforce Hindi as the sole official language nationwide.” As the atmosphere heats up with protests against Hindi imposition, Atharvaa is determined to extend solidarity with the revolutionaries, while Sivakarthikeyan, who works for the railways, is initially unconcerned. However, as his job demands, he decides to study Hindi and persuades Sreeleela, who works at the radio station, to teach him. As their journey progresses, we see them slowly fall for each other.

But romance takes a backseat here as the struggle for identity intensifies. With the entry of Ravi Mohan, a ruthless police officer determined to suppress such efforts by dubbing them as “anti-national,” the situation escalates. Soon, Sivakarthikeyan also joins the battle. Nonetheless, he asserts, “We are only against the imposition of Hindi; not against Hindi or its native speakers.”

Vijay fans tear down Parasakthi posters at Jana Nayagan trailer screening

Parasakthi is set to hit the screens on December 10, coinciding with Pongal. However, the fact that the movie releases a day after the debut of ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, has sparked resentment among Vijay fans towards Parasakthi. According to NDTV, a large mob of Vijay fans who gathered at Ritzy Cinemas in Madurai recently for the Jana Nayagan trailer screening tore down posters of Parasakthi displayed at the venue. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
