Smriti Mandhana's wedding postponed after father hospitalised: What’s the new date?

NEW DELHI: India women’s cricket team batter Smriti Mandhana has postponed her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal after her father, Shriniwas Mandhana, suffered a health complication on Sunday, the day the ceremony was scheduled.Mandhana shares a close bond with her father, who has been part of her cricket journey from the beginning. Her family and team said the decision was taken after his condition did not improve in the morning.

Smriti Mandhana & Palash Muchhal’s Haldi Ceremony Begins!

Tuhin Mishra, Mandhana’s manager, said the issue began while he was having breakfast.“Smriti’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana was having breakfast this morning, and his health started deteriorating. We waited thinking he would recover soon, but it didn’t improve. So we thought not to take any risk and called an ambulance, and he has been taken to the hospital. He is under observation,” Mishra said.He added that Mandhana preferred to delay the wedding until her father returns to normal health.“Smriti is very close to her father. So, she has decided to postpone the marriage, which was going to happen today, till her father is fine. The doctor has said he (Mandhana’s father) will have to be in the hospital for the time being. We are also in shock and hope that he recovers quickly because it’s a big occasion for everyone,” Mishra said.“So, Smriti is very clear, she wants her father to be okay first, and later she will get married. I would request you to respect the family’s privacy at this time,” he added.

Wedding date yet to be decided

There is no information on a new date. The wedding has been postponed indefinitely. While talking to the media, Tuhin Mishra said, “Smriti is very clear that she wants her father to recover first and then resume the wedding. It has been indefinitely postponed.”Her family doctor, Dr Naman Shah, said a medical team is monitoring her father’s condition.“At around 1.30 pm, Sriniwas Mandhana got left-sided chest pain, we call it ‘angina’ in medical term. As the symptoms surfaced, his son called me, we sent ambulance, he was shifted to hospital. We found out in ECG, other reports, that cardiac enzymes are elevated, hence we need to keep him in observation,” Dr Shah was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.A week-long series of wedding events had already begun in Sangli, Mandhana’s hometown in Maharashtra, before Sunday’s development.
