Colorado Springs, Colorado (KKTV) – Trinidad police have arrested 45-year-old Sherry Abeita in connection with a fire that broke out in downtown Trinidad last week. A fire destroyed a 100-year-old building that housed a family-run chiropractic business.
Abeyta is being held in Las Animas County Jail on first-degree arson charges. According to her arrest warrant, Abeyta confessed to setting the fire to retaliate against her boyfriend, who was living in a camp near the building at the time of the fire.
The Morelli-Low family owns a business that was destroyed in a fire. The two told 11News that his father, Doc Low, has lived in the building since his late 1980s, and the fire destroyed not only the business, but their family history.
Regina Morelli-Roe said in an interview, “I don’t know if there is a word for it other than devastating.
According to Regina, the fire consumed more than 30 years of family history. Regina’s father-in-law, Doc Low, has had his chiropractic business out of the building since the late 1980s.
“I grew up in that building. I worked there for my dad in that building. I raised my own kids in that building,” said Ryan, Doc’s son and Regina’s husband. Rowe said.
Authorities said the building was deliberately set on fire.
According to court documents obtained by 11News, Trinidad police said the suspect, Sherry Aveita, set fire to the blanket and left it on the back door of the store to burn, with Aveita confessing to starting the fire. She added that she had retaliated against her boyfriend for setting up the company. Camp near the building.
The Morelli-Low family is currently left behind, but looking forward to it.
“The world is bitter, crazy, and angry to the point of holding a grudge. I hope this person gets the help and support he needs,” Regina said.
The family hopes that the community supports them and that one day Doc will be able to practice again.
