Four people were killed and a total of 14 were shot during a family gathering in northern California on Saturday night, police said.According to Heather Brent, spokesperson for the San Joaquin County sheriff’s office, both children and adults were among the victims of the Stockton shooting. She said early findings “suggest this may have been a targeted incident” during a news conference.Stockton’s vice mayor Jason Lee said in a Facebook post that the shooting happened at a child’s birthday party. “I am in contact with staff and public safety officials to understand exactly what happened, and I will be pushing for answers,” he wrote.Police said they received reports just before 6pm about shots fired near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton, roughly 50 miles east of San Francisco.The gunfire erupted inside a banquet hall that shares a parking lot with several other businesses.Detectives are still trying to determine a motive for the attack.Authorities did not immediately release details about the victims’ conditions, though officials said earlier that several had been taken to hospital.
