Somerville, South Carolina (WCSC) – Speech pathologist Julie Weber says she travels back and forth between Alston Middle School and East Edisto Middle School to work with some of the most unique and creative students.
In today’s world, kids live in a digital world, but they still crave social interaction, says Weber. She says board games are an essential part of learning social, communication, and problem-solving skills.
“Kids love playing games, whether they know it or not. We have a budget deficit and it’s going down in middle and high school as well,” says Weber.
Weber has requested various board games for her Donor’s Choose project.
These games help students develop self-awareness, manage their emotions, and exercise self-control, she says.
Board games such as Pictionary, Headbanz, and Taboo are all interactive, and Weber says they help students think more about their words and explain things.
She says that even simple games like Go Fish help her students reinforce their non-verbal skills.
“The game ‘Go Fish’ helps you see questions and answers, as well as non-verbal skills. They walk in and say, ‘Today is game day,’ and it may look like we’re playing a game, but there’s a lot to do with a game,” Weber said. increase.
Weber says these board games are a great way for East Edist and Alston students to learn and have fun at school.
