Bogartha, Louisiana (WVUE) – Bogartha Mayor Tyrin Truong, who took office earlier this month, has focused on fighting crime in his city early in his term.
The 23-year-old first-time elected official announced last weekend that he had sent a request to Gov. John Bell Edwards seeking help from the state police and the National Guard. He has experienced a sharp rise in 2022.

Truong said police departments and local leaders are patrolling the streets and working diligently to address the issue, but more resources are needed to address the issue.
In an additional effort to fight crime, Truong announced last week that his administration had secured funding to install crime surveillance cameras throughout the city.
“Administration from Superintendent Lisa Tanner and Bogartha Municipal Schools, Sheriff Randy Seale and Sheriff’s Office for the District of Washington, State Senator Beth Mizell, State Representative Malinda White, District Superintendent Richard Ned Thomas and the Diocese. , secured a funding pledge for the installation of crime surveillance cameras in the president’s office,” a spokesperson for the mayor’s office said. “The city and the Bogarsa Police Department are also working with District Attorney Warren Montgomery on additional ways to reduce violent crime.”
Funds will be used to install cameras provided by Project NOLA. Project NOLA has received grants to work with individuals, groups, and local governments to install high-definition security cameras, gunshot detectors, and license plate recognition cameras where needed. Bogarsa, a city of about 10,000 inhabitants, has seen several notable murders over the past year. In July 2022, the death of Javorius Scott, a rapper from Bogartha who has over one million followers, was shot dead by his two gunshots, drawing attention to the small town near the border with Mississippi. rice field.
