Bejoy Nambiar is at it once again. Known for his genre-bending storytelling, the filmmaker returns with Tu Yaa Main, a film that appears to take a familiar genre and infuse it with his signature unpredictability. Starring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor, the trailer of the film was unveiled on Thursday evening, and it promises a love story that spirals into a chilling survival thriller, with a crocodile at its centre.
Running for three minutes and twenty seconds, the trailer opens on a meta note. Someone is seen taking out the DVD of Rakesh Roshan’s cult classic Khoon Bhari Maang and playing the iconic scene in which Rekha’s character is attacked by a crocodile. This reference soon sets the tone for what follows. The narrative then introduces two vastly different content creators from contrasting worlds. Shanaya Kapoor plays a social media influencer known online as Miss Vanity, while Adarsh Gourav essays the role of Aalaa Flowpura from Nalasopara. Their paths cross through a social-media-driven “collab”, motivated by reach, numbers, and visibility. What begins as professional synergy soon blossoms into a tentative romantic connection.
Just as their love story starts to take shape, things take a dark turn. The trailer suggests that the duo go on a vacation together, seemingly a date, when the tension escalates dramatically. As Shanaya’s character relaxes in a swimming pool, she notices the presence of a crocodile lurking nearby. What follows is a barrage of fast cuts and a rousing background score, as both characters find themselves trapped in the pool, repeatedly attacked by the predator. In one moment of disbelief, Shanaya asks Adarsh, “Why isn’t he killing us?”, to which he responds, “Yeah, in Khoon Bhari Maang he attacks Rekha instantly.” Despite several attempts to escape the pool, their efforts prove futile. The trailer culminates in a haunting final image, Shanaya’s character bleeding profusely as the crocodile finally attacks her.

Produced by Aanand L. Rai and Himanshu Sharma under the Colour Yellow banner, Tu Yaa Main appears to be a survival thriller cleverly disguised as a contemporary romance. Knowing Bejoy Nambiar’s filmography, the crocodile’s presence feels far from incidental. It strongly hints at a metaphorical layer, possibly a commentary on digital culture, performative relationships, and the dangers lurking beneath social media obsession.
