The US has stopped processing of all immigration applications from Afghanistan. The move follows the shooting in Washington DC, which left two members of the National Guard critically injured.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services on Thursday posted on X: “Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols. The protection and safety of our homeland and of the American people remains our singular focus and mission.”

Donald Trump blames Biden for immigration policies

The USCIS stopped the immigration applications from Afghan nationals after President Donald blamed his predecessor Joe Biden’s immigration policies, claiming that the lenient rules allowed the attacker to extend his stay in the US. Trump said: “The DHS is confident that the suspect in custody is a foreigner who entered our country from Afghanistan… He was flown in by the Biden Administration in September 2021 on those infamous flights… His status was extended under legislation signed by President Biden.”

Trump further said: “We must now reexamine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden, and we must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here or add benefit to our country.”
