There have been reports of Cosmic Orange colour models of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max turning pink. Users have shared pictures of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max phones turning pink on Twitter, Reddit and other social media platforms.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro models ‘Hero colour’ option is vibrant Cosmic Orange with Anodized Aluminum finish. The discolouration issue reported by some users reportedly appears to stem from the nature of Anodized Aluminum. Unlike harder metals like Titanium, which have a non-porous finish, Anodized Aluminum is porous, allowing dyes like Cosmic Orange to penetrate and create its vivid look. After dyeing, the metal is sealed to lock in the color.
According to a report in Toms Guide that quotes, 2013 blog post by Mark Jazefowicz, VP of Technical Services at PF Finishing, cited by TechRadar, anodized aluminum undergoes rigorous cleaning and sterilization processes, sometimes involving hydrogen peroxide. This chemical, commonly found in cosmetics and cleaning products, can cause “fading or significant discoloration” after just a few exposure cycles. If these products come into contact with the iPhone 17 Pro’s frame, they may trigger the Pinkish hue users are noticing.
What Apple says on how not to clean iPhones
Apple’s official support page advises against using cleaning products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide when disinfecting iPhones, recommending safer alternatives to preserve the finish. Apple support page says: “Using a 70-per cent isopropyl alcohol wipe, 75-per cent ethyl alcohol wipe or disinfectant wipe, you may gently wipe the hard, non-porous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the display, keyboard or other exterior surfaces. Do not use these cleaning products on Apple Vision Pro as they may damage the device. Don’t use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Avoid getting moisture in any opening, and don’t submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agents. Don’t use on fabric or leather surfaces.”Apple is yet to issue an official statement addressing the Pink discoloration issue. For now, it is important for iPhone 17 Pro owners to handle their devices carefully and avoid exposure to harmful chemicals to maintain that coveted Cosmic Orange glow.
