Paris Haute Couture Week is in full swing with dramatic runway shows and surreal, gorgeous looks donned by front row A-Listers. On Wednesday, the Viktor & Rolf label turned fashion upside down (literally).
For the Spring/Summer 2023 show, models walked the runway in tulle princess gowns and layered dresses that flipped in all directions.
Some dresses were worn horizontally or diagonally, exposing the corset undergarments of neutral tones.
The whimsical show was a feat with each gravity-defying garment left in place. Images from the show quickly went viral across social media, with commenters calling it “ridiculous” and “insane” (in the best possible way).
“Couture shows are meant to be the best, fun, and completely surreal to buy for everyday use and Viktor and Rolf absolutely nailed this,” wrote one Twitter user. PostedMichelle Visage, Producer and Judge of RuPaul’s Drag Race, commented on Instagram:
Avant-garde fashion brand Viktor & Rolf, led by Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, is known for its playful and innovative shows featuring exaggerated silhouettes and high-concept narratives. Their fall/winter haute couture collection included his two versions of each look. It’s his layered suit, with its stiff, spongy neckline and bulging shoulders, that the designer transformed into a softer, draped ensemble on stage. Last season, ensembles with very high necklines and shoulders seemed to swallow the model’s neck.
The front row of the Spring/Summer 2023 show was attended by actor Lisa Rinna and models Coco Rocha and Doja Cat. continued her absurd streak Wearing a pin-striped brown suit from a luxury brand, he applied blue sunglasses and false eyelashes as his eyebrows, mustache and beard.
