HYDERABAD: A 28-year-old student from Hyderabad was shot dead in Texas, US, by an unidentified assailant on Oct 3 (US time) in what police suspect to be an armed robbery attempt. He was in the US to pursue higher studies and was looking for a job. He had been applying for jobs in the last six months,” said his brother Damodar.

His mother, inconsolable after hearing the news, said she had initially opposed her son’s decision to move abroad. “I was not in favour of him going to the US, but he insisted as he wanted to build a better future,” she said, breaking down.Chandrasekhar, who completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Hyderabad, had gone to the US in 2023 to pursue a master’s in data analytics at the University of Texas. According to family members, he had recently completed his course and was working part-time at the gas station to meet his daily expenses.Expressing condolences, chief minister A Revanth Reddy described the incident as “deeply shocking and painful”.“The tragic death of student Chandrasekhar from LB Nagar in a shooting incident in the US is extremely distressing. Former minister T Harish Rao and LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy visited their residence and assured support in expediting the process to bring Chandrasekhar’s body back to India.Harish Rao also posted on ‘X’, urging CM Revanth to ensure quick repatriation. “It is heartbreaking that a young man who dreamt of a bright future lost his life at the hands of miscreants.”The Telangana govt is coordinating with Indian officials in the US to complete the formalities and bring Chandrasekhar’s remains home at the earliest.
