Pole Chandrasekhar, who was working part-time at a gas station, was reportedly confronted by the gunman and died on the spot.

HYDERABAD: A 28-year-old student from Hyderabad was shot dead in Texas, US, by an unidentified assailant on Oct 3 (US time) in what police suspect to be an armed robbery attempt. Pole Chandrasekhar, who was working part-time at a gas station, was reportedly confronted by the gunman and died on the spot.“We got to know that my brother was shot dead at a gas station. He was in the US to pursue higher studies and was looking for a job. He had been applying for jobs in the last six months,” said his brother Damodar.

His mother, inconsolable after hearing the news, said she had initially opposed her son’s decision to move abroad. “I was not in favour of him going to the US, but he insisted as he wanted to build a better future,” she said, breaking down.Chandrasekhar, who completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Hyderabad, had gone to the US in 2023 to pursue a master’s in data analytics at the University of Texas. According to family members, he had recently completed his course and was working part-time at the gas station to meet his daily expenses.Expressing condolences, chief minister A Revanth Reddy described the incident as “deeply shocking and painful”.“The tragic death of student Chandrasekhar from LB Nagar in a shooting incident in the US is extremely distressing. I pray for his soul and convey my deepest condolences to his family,” the CM said on Saturday. “The govt will stand by Chandrasekhar’s family and extend all necessary cooperation to bring his mortal remains back home,” he said.Also read: Hyderabad student killed in US: 800+ Indian student deaths abroad since 2018; America leads the tollPolitical leaders and local representatives have reached out to the bereaved family. Former minister T Harish Rao and LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy visited their residence and assured support in expediting the process to bring Chandrasekhar’s body back to India.Harish Rao also posted on ‘X’, urging CM Revanth to ensure quick repatriation. “It is heartbreaking that a young man who dreamt of a bright future lost his life at the hands of miscreants.”The Telangana govt is coordinating with Indian officials in the US to complete the formalities and bring Chandrasekhar’s remains home at the earliest.
